Proper nutrition and good eating habits are important to one’s physical and mental development. The researcher sought to find out if there is a significant relationship between the food preference of the students of Cebu Normal University- College of Teacher Education and their academic performance.
This descriptive- ex post facto- research was conducted using the researcher- made questionnaire and random interview to 60 students of the College of Teacher Education, 30 of them were in the dean’s list (average of 1.78 or above), and the other were 30 were not, in the first and second semester of SY 2008- 2009.
The statistical tests used were frequency, percentage, ranking and Chi- square. The major findings were: (1) There is a significant difference on the food preference of students in the dean’s list and those who are not. Students in the dean’s list prefer the ‘go, grow, and glow food, less coffee and less softdrinks compared to those who are not in the dean’s list; (2) There is a significant relationship between students’ dietary practices and their academic performance.
The researcher recommends that students should be reminded and encouraged to eat nutritious ‘go, grow, glow food and develop good eating habits so as to be physically healthy and improve their academic performance.
